An e-mail inviting me to attend the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) in Manila, Philippines, to be held on 18 to 25 January 2016. I immediately flowery read it, because; First, I will "go home" to the Philippines. If you do not know, the Philippines is my favorite country after Indonesia. Many times I am traveling there, even lived in Manila for the school S2. Second, as a travel writer, I am very interested in the world tourism industry.

With a presence in this event, I will know the strength of tourism in the ASEAN forum, let alone we've entered the AEC (ASEAN Economic Community). Hopefully I can contribute something to the world of Indonesian tourism from the results of my coverage. Third, with this invitation, I am proud I was recognized on a regional basis despite the Indonesian government wrote not ever ngundang me at ATF

ATF is a regional effort to promote the region as a tourist destination. This annual event involves all the tourism industry sectors of the 10 ASEAN member countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Every year, each member country turns to host. ATF 2016 marks the birthday-35 since it was first held in Malaysia in 1981.

ATF aims to make ASEAN as a single tourism destination attractive, raise awareness of ASEAN as a competitive tourist destination in Asia Pacific, attract more tourists to ASEAN member countries, promoting ASEAN travel and strengthen ASEAN cooperation among sectors of the tourism industry. As the annual convention of the ASEAN tourism industry, ATF promote the exchange of ideas, review industry developments, formulate joint recommendations to further accelerate the growth of ASEAN tourism.

Additionally, ATF also provides a place for selling and buying of regional and individual tourism products of ASEAN member countries through Travex (Travel Exhibition) for 3 days. The ASEAN tourism product providers and international buyers can directly do business at the event. Each year ATF Travex 1600 was attended by a delegation of more than 450 international buyers and 150 international media.

ATF this time themed One Community for Sustainability. The beauty of Southeast Asia lies in its warm and friendly, culture, language, religion, architecture, cooking, and geography. ASEAN is a destination for adventure seekers, backpackers, businessmen, family, photography enthusiasts, lovers of the sea and mountains, and many more. Southeast Asia will increase tourist satisfaction, ensure a good experience for the tourists, raising awareness and promoting sustainable tourism practices.
